Friday night's Washington-Jenks game is the best high school game I've seen since the 2000 Jenks-Union game.

Michael Harris is the latest in a long, long line of great BTW running backs. Harris had 265 yards and four touchdowns in the Hornets' 43-37 triple OT win. For those who haven't seen him, Harris is a bowling ball type RB who is tough to bring down yet has game breaking speed. As long as he stays healthy, BTW can play with any team in the state -- including Union and Muskogee. They've proven they can beat Jenks on the Trojans home field in a shoot out. It's been awhile since a Tulsa Public School can claim they are as good as any other team in 6A.

Two other points:
- This is the toughest district -- bar none -- in the state. Jenks, Muskogee and Booker T will all make the playoffs and will be thoroughly tested along the way.
- BTW has the coolest helmets in 6A. Black with orange trim and a hornet logo on the side.

State's top 6A teams open district play and meet for first time since 1999. The two most highly decorated high school football teams in Tulsa county, Booker T. Washington and Jenks, have combined for 16 state championships. They have 11 runner-up trophies and own 53 district titles. For complete article, visit the Tulsa World archives.
